πŸ’° Income Report: August 2019

By on

Lets break down why my August Amazon FBA & Amazon Merch sales picked up, while the dropshipped print on demand sales were pretty consistent month over month.

Amazon FBA

Sales: 2,799
Revenue: $65,086.59
Profit: $12,164.52
Gross Margin: 18%
2019 πŸ’° Profit to Date: $64,743.50

August was uneventful.

Now isn't the time you want to be launching new SKUs, because the Q4 inventory storage fees are much higher than the rest of the year.

I was mainly focused on keeping my best selling SKUs in stock - this month was great from a sales perspective, as you can see by my numbers.

* Note: AMS doesn't sync up with Fetcher, the tool I use for my Amazon profit analytics. So my actual profit is slightly lower, as I was using AMS headline search ads to sell my newest SKU after launching it.

(I always want to be open & honest with you guys!)

I increased the price of my best selling SKU because it was selling with such high daily volume that I was going to run out of inventory.

Luckily, I only did for about a day, but I figured I'd maximize the value of those remaining units.

Here are the stats for my #1 best selling SKU on the month:

  • Units Sold: 743
  • Total Sales: $17,974.50
  • Unit Costs: $16.76
  • Unit Profit: $7.44
  • Total Profit: $5,525.01
  • Gross Margin: 30%

If this SKU sold this well year-round, it alone would net me +$66,300!

And here's my Campaign Manager statistics from Seller Central:

july 2019 campaign manager stats
  • Spend: $2,942.09 $844.53 MoM
  • Sales: $10,337.99 $1,716.36 MoM
  • ACos: 28.46% 4.13% MoM

I maxed out my upload slots in August, with a ton of help from the Merch Titans Automation uploader.

I don't have much time to dedicate to niche research & designing, so I tried to maximize the value from my existing 1,000+ designs by uploading them to various product types on Merch.

I made sure to prioritize uploading to the newest product type: zip hoodies, as there would likely be much less competition on them.

Many of my best selling shirts on the month were inspired by a popular tv show.

I didn't include the TV show in the listings - that would likely get the submissions rejected.

Instead... all I did was

  1. Make sure the design isn't trademarked
  2. Recreate it
  3. List it for what it is... a design that someone on TV wore

Dropshipped Print-on-Demand

So, my big story is that I missed the opportunity to upload my catalog of designs to Etsy, for sale on tank tops.

The realization that there's only 24 hours in a day hit me really hard.

I've got so many things I want to do, but I'm often faced with the reality that there's only enough time to get so many things done, and uploading tank tops to Etsy didn't end up happening.

In reality, I should've still been able to get it done using Merch Titans Automation Uploader, which integrates with Printful & should easily let you push new products to your Etsy store.

What deterred me was writing out the Etsy tags for each listing (I hate the 20 character limit... but you can't skip them)

Here are my Etsy Promoted Listing analytics for for the month:

August 2019 etsy promoted listings analytics

* click to expand

  • Spend: $476.93 $2.52 MoM
  • Revenue: $1,650.38 $266.23 MoM
  • ACoS: 28.9% 5.4% MoM
  • CPC: $0.096 (avg bid: $0.11) $0.001 MoM
  • CTR: 1.37% 0.01%

ACoS decreasing is a always great, and with my ad spend being roughly the same month over month, it's an indicator of a higher conversion rate.

Ultimately I was able to earn another volume discount by surpassing Printful's $5,000 minimum threshold.

I also kept pushing new products to Spreadshirt, Teepublic, Teespring, & Zazzle... but establishing traction on those platforms has been slow.

Keeping in mind that Q4 is always huge, I'm assuming it will pay off during holiday season!

I run a few popular websites where I collect advertising revenue via Google Ads (formerly Google AdSense). I also collect revenue via direct partnerships with advertisers & from affiliate links, but for times sake, I'm going to omit those deals.

I won't be doing month-to-month write ups here because I don't spend much time maintaining these websites. They started out as passion projects that allowed me to become a better web developer, but today I spend very little time working on them.
