How To Run An Etsy Sale

By on

Running a sale is a great way to stand out amongst competition on Etsy and increase the odds of getting your product listing clicked from search results.

First & foremost I want to recommend selling print on demand items on Etsy & fulfilling orders through the Printful integration.

You should be running an Etsy sale on all listings at all times!

It's better to increase the sale price of your products by 10% and run a 10% off sale then to not run a sale at all.

While your sale is active, your listings will get tagged with the sale price in search results:

I've been experimenting with running different sale %'s off & trying to figure out which works best... so far, 15% / 25% seem to be the leading candidates.

(When I adjust my % off, I bulk-edit my product prices to offset it).

Running a sale is FREE, so there's really no excuse not to be taking advantage of it.

Lets get started.

Setting Up A Sale

  1. Click the "Shop Manager" icon in the top right corner
    click shop manager button

    * click to expand

  2. Within Shop Manager, click "Marketing" & then click "Sales and coupons"
    click marketing & then click sales and coupons

  7. Duration: Start: Today / End: [1-2 days from today].
    I recommend a maximum duration of 2 days per sale, which adds a sense of urgency to buy now, as Etsy will say "Sale ends in [x] hours" instead of Sale ends in [x] days"
    Duration: Start: Today / End: [1-2 days from today]

    * click to expand

  8. Terms and conditions (optional): "ENJOY 10% OFF" (be friendly!)

  9. Name your sale: "SAVE10" (make something up - use all caps)

    * click to expand

  10. Click the "Continue" button
    Click the Continue button

  11. Choose listings for discount: Use the "Add multiple listings" & add the listings you'd like to include in the sale

  12. Review details: Make sure everything looks good

    * click to expand

  13. Click the "Confirm and create discount" button (this will start the sale)
    Click the Confirm and create discount button

    * click to expand

  14. Now visit one of your (included) listings - you should see the % off applied immediately
    Now visit one of your included listings & confirm that the sale is live

    * click to expand

One last tip before I wrap this article up:

I recommend adding your listings to sections according to their base cost.

This allows you to easily bulk-adjust the price of your products on Etsy & increase base-cost by 10% to offset any sale % discount.
