Whether we're talking about Etsy or any other ecommerce marketplace, customer feedback can make or break your long-term success.
This is why it's imperative in my opinion to do everything we can (without breaking the TOS of the marketplace) to increase the odds of getting positive reviews.
In an earlier article I mentioned how I leverage Efficient Era's email automation to send requests for "honest feedback" from my Amazon customers.
This time around I'd like to focus in on how I get reviews on Etsy specifically, as I recently surpassed the 100 review mark while maintaining 5/5 stars:
This comes to a 6.1% review rate, which I've accomplished without ever actually requesting that they leave feedback.
Get More Etsy Reviews By Upgrading Shipping Service
My #1 tip involves leveraging Printful's dynamic shipping to improve your customer satisfaction, often times at no additional cost to you.
Printful gets GREAT shipping rates via DHL, and often uses DHL Expedited Max (or "Express") as the cheapest shipping options, which takes 1-3 days delivery time.
Every new Etsy shop desperately needs to get those first few reviews to reassure potential customers that you're legit, I would highly recommend checking EVERY order that's fulfilled by Printful and if you see Express shipping being used, notify your customer with a canned message:
Hi [NAME],
Thank you for your order!
I just wanted to notify you that I've upgraded your shipping to Express (1-3 days) at my expense so that you can get your product faster :)
Best,
[YOUR SHOP]
Etsy customers seem to be a lot nicer than the average Amazon customer, and seem more receptive to buyer/seller communications.
Taking it One Step Further
I often take this a step further and will manually UPGRADE a customers shipping in certain instances:
- If the customer reaches out to me before or after a purchase, since we have already touched base via Etsy Conversations, I try to respond to all communications and in the follow up I let them know about the shipping upgrade
- If orders are placed near holiday deadlines, customers love being reassured that you're doing everything in your power to get their order out ASAP.
If the added cost of upgrading shipping is within reason (which it is more often than not), you can simply change the order & have it bill your Printful wallet the difference in cost.
Here's how to change an existing Etsy order in Printful to upgrade the shipping:
- Click the "Orders" link in the navigation
- Click on the order you'd like to change from the list
- Click the Change order" button
- Click the "Continue to shipping" button (no changes need to be made on this step)
- Scroll down to the "Shipping method" section. If the cost is within reason, you can upgrade it to Express
- Click the "Continue to review" button
- *** FINAL STEP *** It's easy to skip this step as it's kind of misleading, but it's required to save the change. Scroll down and click the "Update order" button
- The most important step is the last one: Notify your customer via Etsy Conversations that you upgraded their shipping for free!
Happy Customers Lead To More Etsy Reviews
In addition to my Printful shipping recommendation, selling quality designs printed/embroidered onto quality products is the best streamlined way to get more Etsy reviews.
I can't speak to the quality of all Printful products, as I've only seen about 20 different ones in person...
But I'll share with you my three most popular & best selling Etsy/Printful products of 2018:
- Gildan 64000 Unisex Softstyle T-Shirt with Tear Away Label
- Yupoong 6007 Five-Panel Flat Bill Cap
- Yupoong 6245CM - Unstructured Classic Dad Cap
I share these with you guys because I want to be transparent and provide value based on my recent results, not to deter you from selling products that I didn't mention.
Those are just my most consistent best sellers :)
