Find Profitable Niches FAST

By on

Prior to conducting niche research, we need a list of niche ideas to validate. You have two options: write a list of niches yourself, or use tools to get a list.

In Part 1, I showed you how to validate niches during the niche research phase.

That walkthrough assumes that you have niche ideas to use in the process.

Don't get me wrong - there's no shortage of niche ideas for print on demand out there.

But not all of us have all day to spend generating ideas for our next POD product design.

Alan, no worries!

In this video & blogpost, I'll show you how to leverage two tools that can save you time by evaluating Amazon listings & data points like BSR to generate lists of niches for us:

Both tools will help fast-track your success on Amazon Merch if you plan on regularly researching, designing, & uploading.

Merch Informer Research Tool

Merch Informer offers a variety of (similar) tools that help with finding profitable niche ideas.

Today, I'll show you three of my favorites.

Merch Hunter

Merch Informer Merch Hunter

What it does:

Search across best sellers within the Amazon Merch catalog (filters out non-Merch listings)

How to use it:

Set the following parameters & click "Search":

  • Search by Bestsellers: I use "Top 1,000"
  • Marketplace: US / UK / DE (set to the primary marketplace you're planning on selling it, which is typically US)
  • Search by sales rank range: I prefer "100,000 and above" which helps filter out much of the copyrighted & trademarked content
  • Category: I typically leave it as "Merch by Amazon Shirts"
  • Price Range: No need to set this
  • Keywords: This is optional, only include some if you're looking to sell within a specific niche like "back to school"

After clicking "Search", the results should all fit the parameters you input: typically they are massively high upside designs, that have a strong sales history behind them to support their current BSR.

Products Search

What it does:

A very easy to use keyword search tool that returns the best sellers based on the parameters you input

How to use it:

Set the following parameters & click "Search":

  • Keywords: You can seed it with a single, general keyword like "school" or be more specific, such as "back to school"
  • Marketplace: US / UK / DE
  • Category: I typically leave it as "Merch by Amazon Shirts"

This is a great way of getting sub-niche ideas. For instance, I searched for "school" and got ideas like:

  • Birthday Shark
  • International Dot Day
  • Baby Shark Doo Doo Doo
  • Awesome Since 2010
  • Square Root of 121 Years old (11)

When you don't have time to think of your own clever ideas... look to Amazon to see what people are buying!

Trend Tracker

What it does:

Searches for consistent best sellers over a period of itme

How to use it:

Set the following parameters & click "Search":

  • Period: I like to use "Three Months". Longer time period is an indicator of more consistent sales
  • Average BSR: 300,000 - 500,000 has been bugged lately, so I've been using 200,000-300,000. This is primarily to attempt to filter out protected (copyright / trademarked) designs
  • Category: I typically leave it as "Merch by Amazon Shirts"

This is one of my favorite tools because it has the best chance of returning niche designs that are generating consistent sales. We call these "evergreens" because their sales typically aren't tied to a specific time of year or holiday.

Merch Titans Research Tool

Merch Titans Logo

Merch Titans offers a similar suite of Amazon Merch research tools, for a more competitive price than Merch Informer.

I'll be showing you their Titans Vault tool, but it's worth noting that I really also think their Trademark tool is very valuable as it allows you to automate checks against the USPTO database for your existing designs.

This way, if someone trademarks a design you're selling, you get alerted & can take it down before Merch detects it & strikes your account.

Titans Vault

What it does:

Use their filters to find the top selling Merch by Amazon t-shirts based on keywords, best sellers rank, and top seller range.

How to use it:

Set the following parameters & click "Search":

  • Top Sellers: Top 1,000 (wider range = more results = better)
  • Best Sellers Rank Range: 300,000 - 500,000 (help filter out protected content)
  • Price Range: This doesn't matter...
  • Reviews: This really doesn't matter either...
  • Additional Keyword: Optional, but useful if you're looking for designs within a specific niche such as "school"

After searching, it returns a list of products that fit your input parameters.

It also pairs each result with the title, bullets, description, & product details.

Each result is basically an all-in-one insight into everything we'd need if we were looking to jump into that niche.
